Foreword
If you read this book, you will have shared much of my early life, as I remember it. I have survived family divorce, diphtheria, the Great Depression, chickenpox, mumps, measles, a tonsillectomy, infantry combat in World War II, lymph cancer, glaucoma and many etceteras. My survival is largely due to the two persons who most influenced my life, my wife, Betty and my father, Morris. Maybe G‑d helped, but why me. I believe that G‑d is still working things out on important stuff. I do think G‑d did a great job with the universe and evolution.
The contents of the following, except for photographs and scrapbooks, are from memory. I kept no diaries. This book was started in 1997 originally with the idea, gleaned from an old writer’s course, that catharsis is a pre-requisite to being a writer. There have been times when memory failed me. When I started this book, in 1997, I was 74 years old. I wrote as I recalled events about which I chose to write and will end this in 2001.
I am grateful for the word processor program on which this was written and the computer accessories that facilitated numerous photographic inserts. Our grandson, Jeffrey Paul Nosanov, provided exceptional technical and moral support.
My hope is that my children and grandchildren will read this. Maybe it will help them understand me or the sources of some my ideas.
